- Rise and shine! Have some coffee and have some Jesus! That sounds like a good time to me… God captured my attention in this image and message this morning.
He brought Matthew 5:14-16 to my mind. A lot of people don’t go to work without their morning coffee… My question to you is how important is God to you in the morning?
Matthew 5:14-16 AMP
You are the light of [Christ to] the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden; 15 nor does anyone light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. 16 Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good deeds and moral excellence, and [recognize and honor and] glorify your Father who is in heaven.
How do we do that though?
We need to fellowship with God in the morning. In prayer and in His Word…
We need to be filled with the Holy Spirit and be led by God…
How do we enter the presence of God?
Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.
I tell you brothers and sisters, that there is power in Thanksgiving to God. Being thankful to God gets your eyes off of everything that is going on around you your circumstances and puts it back on where your eyes need to be and that is on Jesus.
I can’t tell you how many times that I have been having the worst day at times in my life and I have taken a breath or taken a minute and started to just thank God for all of the blessings in my life. It has changed my attitude, changed the outcome of my day, changed me… Wait… What do you mean blessings? Everything good in your life comes from God.
James 1:16-17 AMP
Do not be misled, my beloved brothers and sisters. Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above; it comes down from the Father of lights [the Creator and Sustainer of the heavens], in whom there is no variation [no rising or setting] or shadow cast by His turning [for He is perfect and never changes].
Let’s be real for a second here…
You say wait a minute the alarm clock woke me this morning. No it didn’t… If you died in your sleep, I promise you the alarm clock would not wake you. Therefore, we understand that each day is a gift from God.
Here is a video by Jermaine Edwards called Beautiful Day
Are you in your right mind? That is a blessing. Do you have a place to lay your head? Do you have clothes on your body? Do you have the basic necessities of life? All these are blessings. Are all your limbs intact? This is a blessing… You say I drove myself to work… Who gave you the ability to learn how to drive? who gave you the ability to learn? Even if we have none of those things and some people don’t there are still blessings. you opened your eyes this morning praise God!
God never stops being good to you.
I can’t say enough about praise. I believe that when you praise God it literally releases the power of God into your situation.
My mom used to sing this song “He lives within the praises of His people. So set your mind on Him and let the praise begin and the glory of the Lord will fill this place…”
But thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel. – Psalm 22:3
As I read this morning’s verse on Bible Gateway: in 1 Peter 1:13, I realize that there are things God wants us to do today… Actions…. He calls us to be Salt and Light in a dark world… To be representing Him to all that we come into contact with…
1 Peter 1:13
So prepare your minds for action, be completely sober [in spirit—steadfast, self-disciplined, spiritually and morally alert], fix your hope completely on the grace [of God] that is coming to you when Jesus Christ is revealed.
Brandon Heath – Give me your eyes
There are so many things in this verse… Thoughts proceed actions so you begin by preparing your mind…
How do we do that?
By making decisions early about how you will spend your time ..
– Romans 12:1-2
Therefore I urge you, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies [dedicating all of yourselves, set apart] as a living sacrifice, holy and well-pleasing to God, which is your rational (logical, intelligent) act of worship. And do not be conformed to this world [any longer with its superficial values and customs], but be transformed and progressively changed [as you mature spiritually] by the renewing of your mind [focusing on godly values and ethical attitudes], so that you may prove [for yourselves] what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect [in His plan and purpose for you]. – Romans 12:1-2
Spend time with God find out who you are in Christ…
Jesus is the way spend time with Him… Where do you find Godly values and ethical attitudes… In the Bible… Pray spend that time with God…. Wait so it is important how I spend my time?
Oh yes… You have no idea how important this truly is…
